Stocks Up 57

NEW YORK Stocks moved higher today, encouraged by a recovery inbond prices and some good corporate earnings reports.

At the close on Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial averagewas up 57.10 points at 3,705.78.

Volume on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange was 262.7million shares.

Advancing shares outnumbered declines on the NYSE, with 1,533up, 650 down and 573 unchanged.

After a weak start, bond prices moved higher, depressinginterest rates. Stock investors like to see interest rates fallbecause that cuts the cost of money to companies and makes stocksmore appealing.
