NSW: Carr says poor transport figures "absolutely wrong"
NSW Premier BOB CARR says a report which claims Sydney households are paying more eachyear for public transport that has not improved in 10 years, is absolutely wrong.
The Productivity Commission report says fare rises after inflation are up 32 per centfor trains, 16 per cent for buses, 37 per cent for ferries, and 15 per cent for taxis.
The report says despite the rises, one in 10 Sydney trains still run late -- the samerate as in 1991.
And government funding to some transport services, such as buses, has been cut by asmuch as 20 per cent since that time.
Mr CARR says the figures are absolutely wrong and he's prepared to provide alternativestatistics as proof.
The premier has told radio 2GB his government this year deliberately brought faresin at lower than the CPI and is also funding a huge investment in better trains and buses.
He says on-time running has been maintained at the same levels which were so widelypraised during the Sydney Olympics.
