International Stuttering Awareness Day
International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD) is celebrated around the world each October 22. Stuttering affects approximately 1% of the world population. Stuttering is a speech impairment whereby the forward flow of speech is involuntarily disrupted by repetitions, prolongations or periods where no sound comes out. Stuttering is largely misunderstood by the general public, and often believed to be the result of anxiety, nervous or mental illness.
