BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 1995--Unisys Corp. Thursday announced that the Swedish National Police Board has selected the company to manage the support of the Police Board's multivendor client/server computing systems.
By unifying this responsibility under one services provider -- Unisys -- the Police Board is ensuring the availability and optimum performance of these critical law enforcement systems. The three-year contract represents more than $3.5 million in new services revenue for Unisys.
As the Police Board's single point of contact and prime services provider, Unisys will be responsible for all work related to the maintenance and support of desktop and network systems at more than 350 police stations, laboratories and academies across Sweden. This includes coordinating service delivery and supervising other service providers.
Unisys will maintain network servers, workstations, printers and encrypting equipment from Bull, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems, Unisys and other suppliers. In addition, Unisys will support application and operating-system software from Microsoft, Novell, Lotus, Computer Associates, Informix and Unisys.
The agreement is a key element in the Police Board's strategy to optimize the availability of these computer systems. By "out tasking" these support requirements to a single vendor, the Police Board is reducing administrative burdens, eliminating contention among vendors and simplifying service requisition.
This consolidation will accelerate service delivery and ultimately improve the overall performance of these systems.
In selecting Unisys, the Police Board is acknowledging the broad range of services and technical expertise available through Unisys Desktop Services and Network Enable programs. Unisys Desktop Services specializes in the ongoing support of desktop and network systems.
Network Enable specializes in planning, designing and implementing open, multivendor network solutions. Together these programs represent world-class global capabilities for managing open distributed environments worldwide. -0- Unisys is a registered trademark of Unisys Corp.
