Fed: Vanstone rejects fresh Labor attack on skills shortage

The government's rejected an Opposition broadside over skilled migration .. saying
Labor created Australia's skills shortage problem in the first place.

Immigration Minister AMANDA VANSTONE has told ABC Radio .. Labor Mr BEAZLEY was training
minister in the previous Labor government.

And she says his demand for action on skills now is like setting fire to a factory
.. and then calling for the fire brigade.

Mr BEAZLEY said yesterday the HOWARD government's failure to train Australians caused
the shortage .. and skilled migrants should not be used as pawns to drive down the price
of labour.

He said Labor would invest more in training Australians if it wins the next election.
